Monday marks Day 1 of the Crossfit St. Charles Paleo Adventure.
We are starting the Whole30 program to improve our nutrition, performance and health.
The Whole30 is a program designed to last 30 days. This is the time to rid your body, pantry, house, lifestyle and mind of all the garbage that comes in the shape of "food products" This is a time to be serious and commit. This program lasts only 30 days but it's effects will last a life time.
Melissa and Dallas of Whole9 were here Saturday giving a workshop that was amazing. It gave us the education and tools to fuel our bodies in the best possible way. Whole30 is their program. Designed by them. The best information comes from them. I hope to deliver it to you as best I can.
This week is the planning and preparing week. Be aware. You cannot have a successful Whole30 without commitment and planning. YOU MUST PLAN.
- Read the Whole30 post on the Whole9 website. Pay attention to the rules.
- Consider purchasing the Whole30 Made Simple Success Guide. It is not mandatory but it makes everything so much simpler especially if you were unable to attend the Whole9 Workshop
- Plan your meals for the next 30 days. Really. It is not that hard. I will post a few great links for quick and easy meals.
- Decide how eating good meals will fit into your life. If your schedule is wacky like mine your planning gets a little more creative. DO IT!
- Don't try to wing it. It won't work.
- Figure out what is off limits and clean it out of your fridge and pantry. Don't feel bad. Bring it to the gym and I will donate it to a local food pantry.
- Go Shopping!
- Read this great resource from Robb Wolff Paleo Quick Start and Shopping list.
- Starting Monday, Check this blog daily. Add to the comments, help others with your insights and questions.
- You are going to have to trust me. (and the others who went to the Whole9 workshop) We may tell you some things you may not want to hear.
This is just the beginning. More resources and info to come on this site. Be a part of it.

Day 4 for me........except for chronic halitosis from failure to ingest enough carbs, it's going ok. I get that we are not restricting carbs, but getting enough high nutrient-dense carbs to replace the old processed ones (and dairy) is a chore. That, for me, is the difficult issue of this eating.

I can't decide if I am in Day 3 or Day 0. Let me explain: I am doing everything as prescribed except that I am putting a splash of milk in my morning coffee. I will search my conscience and see if this is the best I can do. I feel surprisingly good and really haven't had any bread/cereal/pasta cravings.

Today is Day 3 for me on the Whole30. After going to Saturday's workshop (the BEST Nutrition workshop I've ever attended in MY LIFE!!!) and reading the Whole30 Simple Success Guide, I realized there is NO "right" time to alter my relationship to food. Food is, always has been and will forever be a part of my life, so there is no time but NOW to change bad habits to good. First day, felt normal; yesterday a little sketchy and today, like I could conquer the world.....que the Helen Reddy song.....

What is the story on tea with nothing in it? Is that something we can have?
Posted by: Jamie W | 03/03/2011 at 03:11 PM
Greg, Try coconut milk
Jamie, Tea is good to go. Hot or Cold
Tamara, I hear you roaring!

Day 4 and this is the second day where I had a PRE-workout snack (6 macadamia nuts and a slice of turkey)....hard to choke down at 5 a.m., but seriously made all the difference in my workouts today and yesterday. I'm a Believer ~ TESTIFY!!!

Greg--I was similarly afflicted: couldn't have my morning coffee without adding heavy cream or half&half. Then I read a post about coconut milk a few weeks ago and bought a can (unprocessed and full-fat) and it is even more wonderful than I expected. Just a hint of sweet and not an overpowering taste at all; perfect compliment. Also, I put the remainder in Tupperware and was pleased at the GLORIOUS surprise I encountered the next morning: it had turned to a deliciously custardy consistency. I put some in my coffee and had a few spoonfulls as a treat/pre-wod snack after work. DO IT!!!
