Often times we resolve to get fit and lose weight. January 1 rolls around and the efforts begin. New gym membership, rows of cardio machines and a menu of denial.
January 15 comes fast and efforts wane, then finally after a month or so, we are all back to square one. Feeling like a failure.
What happened to all the great intentions?
At Crossfit St. Charles we believe in patience. Goals of great value take commitment, time and effort. Trying to make so many lifestyle changes at once is a recipe for disaster.
This is our recipe for Success.
Get Fit First- Focus on moving your body. Learn movements that make you better at life. Move like your body was designed. Regardless of your weight you will begin to feel better. Take 4-6 weeks and commit to just this one aspect of health. Set this one goal, no other. Now is not the time to make drastic changes to your diet. Remember, exercise is not a license to eat like crap!
Get trained-Group classes, personal trainer, DVD's, websites, youtube. The options are limitless. Whatever works into your lifestyle is the best choice.
Find a Community-Very few people can do it themselves. Find a diverse group and make them your new best friends. This is not the time to fall back into a rut. Meet new people. This does not have to take over your life, it can simply be a new and healthy part of it.
Challenge yourself- Not every workout needs to be miserable but every workout should feel like you've worked. Get comfortable in your workouts then challenge yourself. Results come with discomfort! Even if you just start walking. Choose a distance and time yourself. The next time try to complete it a little faster.
Do what you love-but sometimes you gotta do what you hate. You can lift weights all day but sometimes you need to run.
Now that you are on the road to fitness, start educating yourself about nutrition and its affect on how you perform. You can start here. Once you are aware of your performance in your workouts, it is natural to begin to understand how the foods you eat affect you. You will begin to want to make healthier choices.
Food is Fuel-Really yummy, tasty fuel. Learn to love High Octane.
Take a workshop- There is lots of information on the internet but nothing is more motivating than listening to someone who is passionate about nutrition. You'll learn from the speaker and from the other attendees who may have similar issues and questions.
Check out the Whole 9 workshop.
After you understand what you need to change in your diet then challenge your self to 1 month of clean living. Just 30 days! Super strict. Clean your pantry, fridge and your gut. Learn about yourself in 30 days. Learn about the foods that you love and how they make you feel. Learn to love new foods that make you feel great. This takes commitment, strength and support.
Check out the Whole 30 . Do NOT do this until you have accomplished the other tasks. You WILLfail if you are not prepared.
